Kim's Diary - 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run

These are just some updates on my quest to complete the 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run.  I may be too tired to actually update this during the ride, but we'll see.

July 11, 2021 - T-Minus 1 Day

Busy but productive day.

Met up with my support truck team to make sure we got all of our stuff into the pickup.

Headed to a registration get together.  Met many great folks/riders.  Some I knew by their forum ID name and it was great to put faces and real names to the id.  Had BBQ.
Registered and picked up some rider information  Looks like there is going to be close to 80 riders.  Plus a bunch of support folks for the various riders.

Jerry, of Ben & Jerry ice cream fame, was there handing out ice cream.  Turns out he's a 50 year friend of one of the riders and wanted to come and support him.  Really nice guy.  Put up with us all wanting our picture with him.  He was in the parking lot back at the hotel and gave me a big good luck hug.

More and more scooters in the parking lot.  I'm #55.
I made a last minute run to make sure I had gas, then met up with Beth & Andy to finish the evening.

It all starts tomorrow!  We have a 6:30am photo op on the Bar Harbor Pier.  Then we are free to start, go back to the hotel, or whatever.

July 10, 2021 - Heading to Bar Harbor

I've added some quick links at the top of my main page, maybe this will help everyone get to the important pages faster ... Beth's suggestion.

Beth, Andy, and I left The Jefferson Inn for Bar Harbor this morning.  We decided to stop at Beth's brother's to get rid of the trailer for a few days, we anticipate lots of traffic in Bar Harbor and it will be easier without the trailer.

Steve and Susan have a gorgeous place in Holden, Maine.  Was able to meet Jack (the dog), the goats, the chickens, and be zoomed by Humming Birds.  Thanks, Susan & Steve!  Beth & Andy will be visiting them again starting Monday and pick up the trailer then.

We unloaded the scooter, then I followed Beth & Andy to Bar Harbor, not quite an hour drive.  Of course, before actually heading off I was backing up the scooter and my rear wheel went into a ditch.  I panicked, called out to Steve for help, to which he replied "just throttle it".  Duh!  Scooter moved forward and I was out of the ditch.  Note to self: Remember don't panic, just stay calm and think it through.

Arrived in Bar Harbor to find scooters in the Hotel parking lot.  And more showing up!  That's me with GotMojo's (#23) scooter, cdwise's (#56) is behind me.

We went into Bar Harbor to eat and walk around.  Then back at the hotel, which is right along the bay, for a short walk.  Beth took this pic of me with the setting skyline in the background.

Tomorrow involves getting stuff onto the Support Truck and the Starting Line party to pick up information for the ride.

July 9, 2021 - Discovery

While in the car to NH, Beth & I were playing with the Scooter Cannonball website.

Go to the main SCBR page and click 'View Map'.

Then start zooming in!  You can see my number 55, in NH.  And other rider numbers heading east bound.  Keep zooming into Bar Harbor and you can see riders who have already made it to BH!  My 55 should be there sometime tomorrow!

July 9, 2021

My friends Beth & Andy agreed to help me get to Bar Harbor.  Fortunately, Beth has a brother in the area that she will be visiting.  Andy picked up the trailer this morning and successfully loaded up the scooter.

Spent the day driving to Jefferson, NH and stayed at The Jefferson Inn, a Bed & Breakfast.

Tomorrow we head for Bar Harbor!

June 18, 2021

I took several practice rides during May & June, one was actually 440 miles long.  These videos are from a 250 mile practice ride down to Cindy & Meg's place in Ithaca and back.  These are of me arriving and leaving Cindy's.

In my mind I look skinnier.  😀

Daryl & Duane were kind enough to get my Rotopax Fuel mount installed below my rear rack.  It will hold my 1 gallon Rotopax gas container.
